The Tata Punch EV is the electric version of the Punch compact SUV, priced from roughly ₹9.79 lakh to ₹12.99 lakh ex-showroom across 6 variants. It's offered with a choice of two battery packs: a 30kWh pack good for a 355km range and 87bhp, or a 40kWh pack stretching to 468km and 127bhp, both delivering 154Nm of torque.
Safety and ownership costs are where it stands out: a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating with 6 airbags standard across the range, a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, and DC fast charging from 10-80% in as little as 26 minutes. The top Empowered Plus S trim adds an electric sunroof, cruise control, a 360-degree camera and a 10.24-inch touchscreen, though there's no ADAS at any price point and the base Smart trim skips touchscreen, cruise control and keyless entry entirely.

Compact EV with strong safety and easy city driving, ideal for short daily commutes with home charging.
The Punch EV is a practical, affordable city EV, but its modest power, base-spec feature set, and lack of driving excitement make it a poor match for an enthusiast seeking performance or engagement.
A safe, low-running-cost EV for city-focused families, but base variant lacks infotainment and rear comfort features larger families may want.
The Punch EV is built more for city commuting than long highway journeys. Its ~355 km range and modest DC fast charging make occasional long trips possible but not ideal, and the lack of cruise control, infotainment, and rear power windows hurts road-trip comfort.
Took the Punch EV Adventure on an Ahmedabad-Vadodara trip and while it managed the distance, the real-world range genuinely tested my planning. Claimed 468km translated to closer to 280km at highway speeds with AC running, well under half the trip range I'd budgeted for. Had to plan a DC fast-charging stop that ate nearly 40 minutes out of the journey. Cabin stayed comfortable through the drive at least, and the boot easily took our bags. Cruise control on this trim helped on the flatter stretches. Doable with planning, but the range gap versus the claim adds real stress to a longer trip.
Did a Jaipur-Udaipur round trip on the Empowered Plus S and with the DC fast charging network along that route, it worked out better than I expected. Charged to 100% before leaving, and a 30-minute top-up at a highway charger on the way back got me comfortably home. Cruise control made the highway stretches genuinely relaxed, and the 366-litre boot handled all our luggage. Real-world range with AC on settled around 300km rather than the claimed 468km, so I planned around that rather than the sticker figure. Takes more planning than a petrol SUV, but it delivered without any drama.
Bought the base Smart 30kWh hoping for a bit of driving fun to go with the styling, and it's been a letdown on that front. 87bhp genuinely isn't enough once you're carrying passengers in Delhi's stop-go traffic, and there's zero drama to how it accelerates. No cruise control, no touchscreen, no ADAS at all, just the bare essentials on this trim. Regenerative braking is smooth at least. Real-world range with AC on drops closer to 210-220km, adding genuine range anxiety on top of an already unexciting drive. For someone who actually wants an engaging EV, this trim isn't it.
The Empowered Plus S with the 127bhp motor is noticeably livelier than the base Punch EV, but it's still not really a car for enthusiasts. Acceleration around Pune's city roads feels genuinely brisk for an EV this size, and the 10.24-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto is a nice touch. There's no ADAS at any price point though, just a basic blind spot monitor, which feels like a miss at this price. Handling is composed but there's nothing particularly engaging about the driving experience itself. Does everything competently, I just wouldn't call it exciting.
