  Sensible daily car, not one for enthusiasts

  The Tiago Creative AMT is a sensible car, not an exciting one. Performance around Hyderabad's city roads is adequate but never eager, and the AMT's shift delay further dulls any responsiveness the 1.2L has. The 10.24-inch touchscreen and wireless Android Auto on this trim are genuinely impressive for the price bracket, and build quality feels solid enough day to day. Mileage in mixed driving has been around 17kmpl. It does everything asked of it reliably, I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone who cares about how a car feels to drive.

  Gutless and short on character for the price

  Bought the Pure petrol manual hoping for a fun-to-drive budget hatchback and came away disappointed. 85bhp sounds fine on paper but the car feels genuinely gutless the moment there's more than one passenger or the AC is running, which in Mumbai's heat is basically always. No touchscreen, no Bluetooth, nothing that makes the cabin feel remotely modern on this trim. Handling around town is fine but there's zero character to how it drives. The one bright spot is that 6 airbags come standard even on this trim, which counts for something. For someone who actually enjoys driving though, this isn't it.

  Surprisingly capable on a proper highway road trip

  Did a Chandigarh-Shimla foothills trip in the Tiago petrol manual and it handled the job better than expected for a car this size and price. Mileage settled around 18-19kmpl mixing hill roads and highway, close enough to Tata's claimed figure. The 35-litre tank meant fewer fuel stops than I'd budgeted for. Cabin stayed reasonably comfortable over the 4-hour drive, and the 168mm ground clearance handled a couple of rougher patches without any scraping. No cruise control is the one thing I missed on the flatter highway stretches. Genuinely surprised by how capable this budget hatchback felt on a proper road trip.

  CNG range and no cruise control limit long trips

  Took the Tiago CNG AMT on a Nashik-Pune run and while the running cost is unbeatable, the trip highlighted its limits as a long-distance car. Range on CNG is around 150-160km before you need to think about the petrol reserve, which means more stops than I'd like on a highway trip. There's no cruise control, so a 3-hour stretch gets tiring without anything to lean on. The AMT is smooth enough at a steady highway speed. Boot space is basically gone with the CNG cylinder in there, so luggage rode on the back seat. Fine for shorter trips, less so for proper highway duty.
